Enjoy the best in chamber music, up close and personal. Hosted by violist and SF Chamber Orchestra Music Director Emeritus Ben Simon, we’re a local collective of top classical players who get together for love of it, and for the fun of it. The friendliest concerts around, we’re performing six programs this season at Berkeley’s Hillside Club including ViolaMania 6 in November and our annual tribute to the Salzburg Scribbler, the Mozart Birthday Celebration Concert in January. Plus lots more. Sign up for Ben’s List here.

A Bay Area treasure, violinist Robin Sharp is the longtime concertmaster of the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra and chamber musician par excellence. With three of her SFCO companions, the Sharp String Quartet will perform an evening of string quartets from that undisputed master of the genre, Ludwig van Beethoven. Born Dec 16, 1770, Beethoven inherited the classical world of Haydn and Mozart and despite a difficult life that included complete deafness by the age of 44, he changed the course of music history with his 9 symphonies, 32 piano sonatas and 16 string quartets.
The SSQ will play one quartet from Beethoven’s early years and one from a bit later. Don’t miss this wonderful evening of great chamber music.
