Documentary Film Series

The Berkeley Documentary Film Series is organized by volunteers at the Hillside Club to provide a space in the City of Berkeley to see films and curate an informative, poignant, and sometimes challenging experience for the audience. Films are generally shown once per month from September to May.

Upcoming Documentary Screenings

October 21, 7 p.m., The Volunteers, about the historical connections between Seattle Mountain Rescue and the Tyrolean Bergretun in Austria, providing models for civic engagement in our disconnected world. Discussion after the screening with film co-producer David Ritsher and Living Room Conversations cofounder Joan Blades. 

 

November 6, 7 p.m., Wrestling the Angel by Bay Area filmmaker and producer  Fiona McDougall, a short documentary about a fine art painter who transforms a life-threatening crisis to reveal significance in every day beauty and how we can live life more deeply.

 

November 12,  7 p.m., SANTOS–Skin to Skin by Berkeley film director Kathryn Golden, about John Santos, East Bay community activist and Grammy-award-winning percussionist.

 

December 2, 7 p.m., Sally, by local filmmaker Deborah Craig, about a lesbian-feminist firebrand, professor, and fantasy author who spearheaded the 1970s and 80s US lesbian feminist movement.
