Documentary Film Series

The Berkeley Documentary Film Series is organized by volunteers at the Hillside Club to provide a space in the City of Berkeley to see films and curate an informative, poignant, and sometimes challenging experience for the audience. Films are generally shown once per month from September to May.

Upcoming Documentary Screenings

7 p.m., Thursday, January 15, award-winning documentary Democracy Noir by Academy Award-nominated Berkeley filmmaker, Connie Field, who will discuss the making of this documentary about the dismantling of the Hungarian government by Victor Orban, which has provided a playbook for Project 2025. 

 

7 p.m., Thursday, February 5th, Between the Sun and the Boardwalk, by Berkeley director Helen De Michel, about the successful campaign for a soda tax in Stockton, CA, with a panel after the one-hour documentary, including protagonists in the film.

7 p.m., Thursday, March 5, Labors of Love: The Life and Legacy of Henrietta Szold, by Abby Ginzberg, Berkeley, award-winning film director, who will speak about Szold, the founder of Hadassah, who saved thousands of children and advocated for a binational Jewish state, after the screening.
