On Monday, October 19, past Club president Jan Robitscher will give a ZOOM presentation on the San Francisco Bay Area sculptor Ruth Cravath (1902 - 1986) and the exquisite series of mosaics she created between 1961 - 1964 for St. Marks Episcopal Church in Berkeley. Originally designed for the walls of Williams Hall, the mosaics were moved to storage during redevelopment in 2012. Two years later, all but eight of the 68 mosaics were reinstalled in and around the new Lions Hall, dedicated in 2014. They are now readily visible to the delight of visitors and parishioners.

Presentation on Frida Kahlo exhibit by Barbara Rydlander

On Monday, September 14, Club member Barbara Rydlander will give a ZOOM presentation about the exhibit “Frida Kahlo: Appearances Can Be Deceiving,” to be seen at the deYoung Museum when it reopens. You will learn about this amazing and unique woman who created very personal images of her life, traumatic events, and her deep love for Mexican art and culture. Despite the hardships that she endured, she became a fashion icon; a role model for artists with disabilities; and a strong individual in a troubled marriage to artist Diego Rivera.
The presenter Barbara Rydlander was an art history instructor at several community colleges for 35 years. She now has her own class “Art-on-Site”, very popular with retired populations. The 8-week session includes lectures about exhibits in the area and guided visits to local museums and galleries. Enrollment is still available for the fall session, beginning the week of September 16, Wednesdays or Thursdays from 1-3 pm. Because the class will be through ZOOM presentation this session, she can admit more students. You can view the website at www.artonsitetours.com. You can also send Barbara an email at arthistoryvista@yahoo.com. for more information.
