February 2022 Fireside Meeting: The Sun Also Rises

Making Sense of Changes to the Solar Environment in California with Doug McKenzie

Home solar is a necessary and profoundly important solution to climate change, and now it's future is being challenged. If you have rooftop solar, or have been considering it, learn how proposed changes may impact you, other homeowners, and our environment. California has been a world leader in renewable energy, but now our rooftop solar industry is critically endangered by dramatic changes proposed by the California Public Utilities Commission. It's confusing! What's going on, and what are the paths forward? Join solar expert and Hillside Club member Doug McKenzie for answers. He'll present the proposed policy changes, the forces leading to these changes, and how home solar, under all circumstances, can and will thrive in California.

Doug McKenzie became a Hillside Club member soon after moving back to Berkeley in 2016. He's held

careers in sales, construction, finance, and as a career coach. He retired from HP after 20 years as a Unix R&D engineer and manager, and has spent the last 11 years in solar as an educator, utility-scale solar consultant, in business development for a rooftop solar installer, and as a board member of the Northern California Solar Energy Association (NorCal Solar). He has a Math degree from UCB.
